23rd August
 By midday, we were cruising along on a traditional junk boat in magical Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. In the afternoon, we got off the boat to do a kayak tour during which we cruised through some absolutely stunning bays and caves! This place was definetly a defintion of paradise! We stayed on the boat for the night.

Ha Long Bay means something like "Descending Dragon" in Vietnamese. It consists of 969 islands.


























24th August
At lunchtime, we arrived on a small private island we had just to ourselves with a bunch of people. It is the only island in the bay with two beaches. After our arrival, we had a volleyball tournament. Then, I grabbed a kayak on my own and cruised along in the bay and around some islands which has probably been my favorite part about Vietnam so far. It was so peaceful just to be to yourself in the emerald green and endless sea, enjoying the tropical sound of the animals living in the trees. My only accompany where some vast jellyfish and a permanent hot breeze.
We slept in a kind of wooden hostel on the island and all we needed were some matresses or a hang mat. Well, the mosquitos had a feast that night.

























25th August 2017
In the morning, we had to leave the private island again. On our way back to the mainland, we had a cooking class and I learned how to make spring rolls - yummy.
Being back in Hanoi, I met the brother of a Vietnamese friend in the evening. We went for a stroll around the city, met a good friend of his, had some very delicious typical Vietnamese dinner, watched the busy streets at night and went to have some kind of tea I'm still not sure about what that actually was. 02/11/2017 I used my last day of free-time to meet a friend I got to know in Bali. We went to the museum and to the wintergardens in the Auckland Domain Park and chatted for hours and hours. We almost forgot about the museum which, to be honest, has no logical concept. It is called The War Memorial Museum, but it was not only about several wars, it was also about volcanos, dinosaurs, sharks and birds, insects, Japanese art, ancient tools and houseware etc.  I also met someone else and we went to the theatre, not to watch a play, but to walk around in the hallways and to look at the paintings.  Tomorrow, I will join the Conservation Volunteers New Zealand - my next volunteering project is about to start.

04/12 - 08/12 Another week of conservation work is over - the last of 5 weeks. A short summary of what we die this week in Wellington: we filled loooads of mulch into bags which we carried uphill, we did plant releasing and track maintaining in a Bird Sanctuary, more plant releasing, as-well as some work in Zealandia (see last post) and nursery work. To be honest, I am kind of glad that my time in the project is over because I discovered that construction work and gardening is not really one of my passions. Though, I finish this project and leave New Zealand with a smiling face. Just like all the other countries I've been to, New Zealand changed me and my mind. I learned so much, not just about native plants and animals, but about kindness, generosity and how everything seems to be connected in a deep love for our nature. In many ways, I hold a different stance about who I want to be as a person and how I want to live my life. Looking back, what fascinated me

15th July 2017 My bus departs at 6 am in Cape Town. On my way, I see the most beautiful dawn. I arrive in Knysna at 2 pm which will be my home for the next four weeks.
